UPDATE: Good News About Nancy . . .

just stopping in to say hi and i?m ok. thanks to those who sent concerned emails.. update on nancy: she is going through counseling at a voluntary facility where she will remain for another 1.5 weeks.

we visit her often and she is very homesick by now.

she is looking forward to a fresh start, which we are all working hard to give her.

The judge ordered that Sara was not to have ANY contact whatsoever with any of the children until after the hearing set for two weeks from today. ? He was warning her, it seemed.
By the way, the attorney service guy that helped me put my petition together was VERY familiar with JW's. ? He seemed to be a subdued man on fire when helping me and I think I really lucked out.

" thread, but i think i get more annoyed than offended by things.

there's a difference.. here are some things that annoy me.

Drivers who go exactly the speed limit in the left lane and tie up traffic for miles.

I hate a messy home, and I especially hate it when people do not put their dishes in the dishwasher, but rather drop them in the sink RIGHT NEXT to the DW.

How lazy do you have to be?

Dropping all of your crap on the dining room table when you come home instead of putting it away in the closet. Maybe we should start dining in the closet?

Buying a new Home...I hope...dream

me and hubby have been looking at some model homes and they were so beautiful...i am completely sold.

we have built over 150,000 in equity in the last 3 years, so it looks like my dream home might be a reality.

this is something i would never have thought of in my earlier jw days.

i can't believe this.....

well, looks like one of my best friends is getting df'ed.

unbelievable.. aah, to begin with, her parents split up when she was about 11 and her dad is more or less a deadbeat who wasn't really a part of her life even when she was suicidal....and her mom is rarely there for her, and sometimes gets drunk and physically abusive.

her mom remarried and she lives with her and her stepdad who are never at home.

Ever met high ranking JW and felt uneasy

this came up in another topic and feel it needs a topic of its own.

does anyone else have experiences of meeting (cant use the word 'brothers')men from high up in the borg and felt uneasy about it.. alanb wrote.

i was at twickenham many years ago (about 20) and went to the admin area to get info about serving where the need was great (great plan that turned out to be) anyway there were two elderly yet autstere brothers standing at the steps to the main office area looking as though they owned the place, they had a real air of seniority and importance about them, i have no idea who they were, yet sense they were senior one was english the other american.. .

He seemed like a nice enough fellow to me. No sense of dread or any lizard membranes covering his eyes.

I should add BTW that to do this three-step process it is imperative that you have her trust. Without some level of her trust and respect, this will not work.

For me, this entails me calling her to let her know where I am at any time I am late, etc? It also involves us going out on regular dates every week if possible. And me generally being a BETTER husband now than I was as a JW. Going with her to see her family as often as possible. I keep the house spic and span while she goes out in Sat morning FS. I do grocery shopping, do a lot of the cooking, laundry, and dishes. Make sure enough money is always in the checking account, bills paid on time, and I get her flowers once in a while too.

The above, while not uncommon when I was a JW, is now regular from me as a DA?d JW. It also helps offset me doing ?worldly? things once in a while. I rented ?Kill Bill 2? last week [ooohh, a rated ?R? movie] . Not a peep from her about it, not even a dirty look. I try not to swear, don?t smoke or get drunk. But I still have fun, go drinking out with my buds once in a while, and do Martial Arts, which she doesn?t really care for.

I guess the bottom line is we have to demonstrate in other aspects of our lives that we care about her. Otherwise if we are just trying to preach to them about their well being I feel that the three-step process will sound shallow, out of place, and end up falling flat on it?s face.

If you want to discuss alarming cult behaviour, do just that. But talk about cults disturbing behaviour OTHER THAN the WTS.

Approaching a cult topic RE: JW?s via another cult may allow you to fly under the wife?s ?Apostate? radar alert that all JW?s are instilled with.

I am attempting to do this with my wife. It?s not easy! My wife?s radar for any apostate thinking is on constant high alert. I am approaching it as Steve Hassan has outlined in his book ?Releasing the Bonds?. He says to approach it like this:

Discuss what a phobia is vs. a real fear [i.e., phobia of public speaking vs. fear of heights. One will only cause embarrassment, while the latter can cause death if not respected.]
Discuss with the loved one how OTHER high-control groups use PHOBIAS to control their members. What really happens when a Scientologist [insert favorite cult here] as compared to what the group leaders say will happen?
Start asking the loved questions about their phobias RE: the WTS. Can the WTS ever loose Jehovah?s favor? Is there anything that the WTS could do to lose Jehovah?s favor? Is there any earthly organization that was backed by Jehovah in the past that still has His favor today [Isrealites, Judah, 1 st Century congregation/F&DS] ?

I?ve started talking with my wife point #1. She has a phobia of spiders and other innocuous insects found in WI. I have a phobia of people, .. well, I won?t go into that. But we discussed phobias and it was light-hearted enough that it didn?t set off her ?apostate radar?

My next step is to talk about OTHER cults. I have an easy topic for that. Her parents used to be in a cult when she was younger, ?The Way?. Her parents left in the middle of the night to a different state to escape the cult. So I figure I can ask questions about that just as a matter of family history. Maybe even in the company of her parents.

I did brainstorm a more radical idea of telling her that I was thinking about becoming a Mormon, Scientologist, or any other group she deemed a cult. Then put her in the position of researching more about cults to try to ?save me?, only to awaken herself to the similarities of the WTS to other cults.

Let me know how it works out for you. BTW, I highly recommend Steve Hassans book ?Releasing the Bonds?. I think you?ll find it enlightening and helpful.

i must say that i have been lurking around this place for a good long while.

to know that you are not alone in your quest to escape the watchtower is one of the best ways to actually do it.. right now i'm 18, but became an unbaptized publisher at 12. i blew those elders away with my skill at parroting back the wts doctrine, and for a while, i was faithful enough in service, which i didn't really enjoy, but i had to do it to live, right?

we went to meetings regularly, even thosugh i simply dreaded the boredom and the inevitable guilt i would feel.

RE: the "Reasoning with the Scriptures", a book to refute the WTS book, I think someone has put one together already.

Never read it, so I can't attest to it's usefulness.
